I had the most incredible experience this weekend with Cristina and Daniel shooting a very surprised future bride, 1200 feet over the Boston Harbor. Needless to say Cristina was extremely happy with the question, but not as happy as Daniel was with the answer.
The shoot started with the couple taking a tour of Boston by air and me posing as a photog shooting with Boston Helicopters to update their website. It was amazing flying over the city, with the incredible anticipation of what was going to happen.
Thanks again to Daniel and Cristina for allowing me be to be a part of their fantastic moment and a big thanks to Oskar at Boston Helicopters for all of his help and a great tour!
Here are a few sneak peeks and some words from the couple about their story!
How and when did you guys meet?
We met in 2017 on a emergency response mission for our work. Neither of us had ever seen each other on any previous jobs, but one day she came up to me to ask me a question and I abruptly told her I wasn't looking for her, but another person was. That was the first time we ever spoke to each other. We joke about it now, but honestly, I was so nervous that this gorgeous woman was coming up to talk to me that I just acted like I didn't care at all.
What was the first thing that attracted you to one another?
Cristina tells me that the first thing that she was attracted to were my eyes. Additionally, with some social media homework, she found a picture of me where she said my hair was perfect and that was it.
The first thing that attracted me to her was her smile. She has one of those smiles that can light up the darkest of rooms. It's beautiful, endearing, and contagious.
When did you know that they were the one?
Shortly after we had started talking, I got sick and was actually hospitalized. Things were looking pretty grim there for a while and my parents even flew in to see me. When she was able to, she came to see me in the hospital. At one point we were laying in the hospital bed and I just knew that this was the woman who I was going to spend the rest of my life with. It was one of those slow motion life altering moments where everything changes.
For her it was after I was released from the hospital. Keep in mind this was right before Thanksgiving and my parents were still in town so I thought it would be nice to spend a few days around the area since I was still pretty tired. I couldn't think of a better Thanksgiving then to be with my parents and this woman who I knew was the one so I asked Cristina and my parents to spend Thanksgiving together. She told me it was at that moment that she knew I was absolutely serious and that she already had love for me in her heart, but that wanting her to spend the holiday with my parents really cemented everything into place.
Why did you choose to propose where you did?
Cristina is a lover of all things exciting. She loves roller coasters, helicopters, and all of that exciting stuff. I however, like to keep my feet planted on the ground more. I had run through a few ideas of where to ask her (at a Red Sox game, underneath the trellis at the Christopher Columbus Park, etc.) but then I came across a helicopter ride proposal. I knew that it was exactly what she deserved and it would show her how much she meant to me. It turns out that she said Yes and I found out that I love helicopter rides.
